The recent population of livestock in the country has been reported as 20 million. Out of which 48 percent sheep and 22 percent goat of total number of country are in Balochistan.

Livestock is the single most important sector, which can make an impact at the grassroots level in eliminating the poverty, maintenance of good health in Balochistan. There are sheep and goat in every household, people are born herders and mostly depend on livestock herds for their livelihood.
